Terms of service

Effective Date: March 2026
Last Updated: August 13, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the RadonTest.ca™ website and purchase of our guided radon testing service. By placing an order or using our services, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

1. About Our Service

RadonTest.ca™ provides a guided radon testing service. We ship you a certified long-term radon test kit, guide you through the minimum 91 day testing period with reminders and support, coordinate the return of your kit to the laboratory, and deliver your results with Health Canada context.

RadonTest.ca™ is not a radon measurement or mitigation company. We do not perform on-site radon assessments, inspections, or mitigation services. Laboratory analysis is performed by an independent, C-NRPP-listed laboratory. Our service facilitates the use of a lab-analyzed test kit and provides general informational context based on the laboratory result and the Health Canada guideline.

2. Eligibility

  • You must be at least 18 years of age to place an order.
  • Our service is available to Canadian residents with a valid shipping address in all provinces and territories.

3. Orders and Payment

  • All prices are listed in Canadian dollars (CAD) and are subject to applicable taxes (GST/HST/PST) based on your province.
  • Payment is processed securely through Shopify Payments at the time of order.
  • An order confirmation will be sent to your email address upon successful payment.
  • Your order is an offer to purchase our service. A binding agreement is formed once we accept your order and send a confirmation email. You may review and correct checkout errors before completing your purchase.

4. The Testing Process

By placing an order, you agree to:

  1. Place the test kit in the lowest lived-in level of your home according to the included placement guide.
  2. Leave the kit undisturbed for the full testing period (minimum 91 days).
  3. Return the kit using the prepaid return label provided, within the timeframe communicated to you.

"Undisturbed" means the detector remains in its original placement location and is not moved, covered, or tampered with during the testing period.

4a. Lab Registration Consent

By placing an order, you authorize RadonTest.ca™ to register your test kit with our certified laboratory partner on your behalf. This registration is necessary to process your test and deliver your results. The information shared with the laboratory includes your name, shipping address, detector barcode number, floor tested, and test start and end dates. The laboratory uses this information solely for the purpose of analyzing your test kit and delivering your results. For full details on how your information is shared, see our Privacy Policy.

During registration, you will also provide home characteristic information (home type, approximate year built, foundation type, test purpose, and mitigation status). This information is retained by RadonTest.ca and is not shared with the laboratory. It is used to provide context in your results report and, with your explicit consent, may be used in anonymized aggregate form for radon research purposes. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

We will send you email reminders throughout the testing period. These reminder emails are part of the service you purchased and are not marketing communications.

If you do not return your kit within 12 months (365 days) of the start date, your test will be considered expired and no results will be delivered. No refund will be issued for expired tests.

5. Results Delivery

All radon test kits are analyzed by an independent, accredited third-party laboratory. RadonTest.ca™ does not perform laboratory analysis. The Certificate of Analysis is issued by the laboratory and lists RadonTest.ca™ as the submitting service provider. Your name and property address appear on the certificate as the test contact and location.

Your radon test results will be delivered to you by email once the laboratory has completed its analysis. Results include:

  • Your measured radon concentration in Becquerels per cubic metre (Bq/m³)
  • A comparison to the Health Canada guideline of 200 Bq/m³
  • General informational context and public next-step resources based on your result level

6. Important Disclaimers

Please read this section carefully.

  • RadonTest.ca™ does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Our results are informational only.
  • RadonTest.ca™ does not guarantee the accuracy of any individual test result. Radon levels fluctuate naturally and a single test provides a snapshot of average conditions during the testing period.
  • RadonTest.ca™ does not make any claims about the health status of your home. We report your measured radon level relative to the Health Canada guideline — nothing more.
  • A result below the Health Canada guideline of 200 Bq/m³ does not mean the absence of radon or the absence of health risk. Health Canada states that there is no level of radon below which exposure is considered risk-free.
  • If your result is above 200 Bq/m³, Health Canada recommends consulting a C-NRPP (Canadian National Radon Proficiency Program) certified professional for assessment and mitigation options.
  • Test results may be affected by factors outside our control, including but not limited to: kit placement, environmental conditions, home ventilation, and tampering.

You acknowledge that RadonTest.ca™ provides informational context only and agree not to hold RadonTest.ca™ liable for decisions made based on your test results, including decisions related to property transactions, warranty claims, health actions, or mitigation.

For additional information about service limitations and customer responsibilities, see our Disclaimer.

7a. Follow-Through Guarantee

If you complete the full 91+ day testing period, return your kit using the provided prepaid return label within 14 days of receiving your final return reminder email, and the laboratory is unable to produce a valid result through no fault of your own, we will either:

To be eligible:

  • Your kit must be returned via the provided prepaid Canada Post label.

  • The return must occur within 14 days of the final return reminder email.
  • The detector must not have been damaged, tampered with, or improperly handled.

This guarantee does not apply to:

  • Results that are successfully delivered, regardless of the measured level.

7b. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless RadonTest.ca™ and 1514890 Ontario Inc. from claims arising from your misuse of the service, your failure to follow the placement instructions, or your violation of these Terms.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

  • Our total liability to you for any claim arising from or related to our service is limited to the amount you paid for the service.
  • We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to health outcomes, property damage, loss of use, or emotional distress.
  • We are not liable for delays or failures in service delivery caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including postal delays, laboratory backlogs, or force majeure events.

If any part of this limitation of liability is unenforceable under applicable law, the remaining provisions continue to apply to the maximum extent permitted.

9. Intellectual Property

All content on the RadonTest.ca™ website, including text, graphics, logos, design, and the Canada Radon Map together with its underlying data compilation, is the property of RadonTest.ca™ and is protected by Canadian intellectual property laws. Except as expressly permitted in Section 9a, you may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our content without our written permission.

The Canada Radon Map is an original compilation. While it draws on published statistics from government and research sources — which remain the property of those sources and are cited on our data and methods page — the selection, organisation, geographic matching, derived measures, and presentation of that material are our own work and are protected as a compilation under Canadian copyright law.

9a. Permitted and prohibited uses of the Canada Radon Map

You may, without asking us: view and search the map; quote or cite individual figures for a specific area in editorial, educational, public-health, or personal use, with attribution to RadonTest.ca; embed the map using the embed code we provide; and link to any page on our site.

Where a page of this site expressly places specific data under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence, that licence governs the use of that data and is the written permission referred to in this section. Its attribution condition applies: credit “RadonTest.ca Canada Radon Map”. Where this section and such a licence differ, the licence prevails for the data it covers.

You may not, without our prior written permission and outside the terms of any open licence described above: extract, copy, or reproduce the map’s data in bulk or in substantial part, whether manually or by automated means; use robots, scrapers, crawlers, or scripts to systematically retrieve the map’s data or the data files behind it; reverse-engineer, reconstruct, or re-derive the compilation or any part of it; or use the map’s data to build, train, populate, or supply a competing map, dataset, product, or service.

These restrictions apply to the compilation and to its data files, not to the underlying public statistics, which remain freely available from their original sources. We welcome search engines and AI assistants indexing and citing this site.

If you are a public-health organisation, researcher, journalist, or potential data partner and you need more than the map provides, please ask — write to support@radontest.ca. We provide aggregate extracts to qualified requesters, and we would rather give you the data properly than have you take it badly.

10. Privacy

Your personal information is collected, used, and disclosed in accordance with our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein. Any disputes arising from these Terms or our services shall be resolved in the courts of Ontario.

Nothing in this section limits any right you have under the consumer protection legislation of your province or territory. If you are a consumer resident in Quebec, you may bring proceedings before the courts of Quebec.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Updated Terms will be posted on our website with a revised "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of our services after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
