Where should I place the kit?
Place the detector in the lowest level of your home that is regularly occupied—typically a basement living area or ground-floor room. Keep it away from drafts, direct sunlight, high humidity areas, and exterior walls. The included placement guide has detailed diagrams to help you choose the best spot.
How long does the test take?
The detector must remain in place for a minimum of 91 days. You can leave it in place for up to 12 months if you prefer a longer sampling period. Long-term testing provides a more accurate annual average than short-term tests, which is why Health Canada recommends testing for at least 3 months during the heating season (October–April).
How do I return the kit?
End your test in the portal first, then slip the detector into the prepaid, pre-addressed return envelope and drop it in any Canada Post mailbox. Lettermail is not tracked, so tell us you mailed it when our email asks — that is your proof of mailing under our Follow-Through Guarantee.
When will I get my results?
We email you when the laboratory logs your detector in, and again when your Certificate of Radon Analysis is ready — typically 4 to 5 weeks after you mail it back; peak season (March–May) is slower. Your certificate shows your radon concentration in Bq/m³ and how it compares to the Health Canada guideline of 200 Bq/m³.
What if my result is above 200 Bq/m³?
If your result exceeds the Health Canada guideline of 200 Bq/m³, Health Canada recommends contacting a C-NRPP (Canadian National Radon Proficiency Program) certified radon mitigation professional. Your results email includes the Health Canada guideline and a link to the C-NRPP directory so you can find a certified professional in your area. According to Health Canada, mitigation systems can typically reduce radon levels by more than 80%.
Can I order multiple kits? Is there a discount?
Yes. Essential is $49 for 1 kit, $89 for 2 and $132 for 3, applied in the cart, with a limit of 3 per order. Each kit includes the detector, laboratory analysis, the prepaid return envelope and your certificate. Testing 4 or more rooms? Our Signature kit covers larger orders and is analysed in Canada with tracked courier both ways.
Do you ship to Quebec?
Yes. We ship to all Canadian provinces and territories, including Quebec. Our service and emails are available in English and French, and your Certificate of Radon Analysis is bilingual.
RadonTest.ca provides a managed radon testing service using trusted third-party detector, laboratory, and fulfillment partners. Some kit components may display partner branding. This is normal and does not affect the testing process, support, or delivery of your results.
